St. John's, Antigua - May 16, 2005: In what was previously described as a warm-up match for the visiting Pakistan cricket team, Pakistan breezed passed the “Antigua President’s XI” team to a commanding 248-run victory. The limited-overs practice match was played at the Antigua Recreation Grounds (ARG) yesterday. The highlight of the good turnout to the ARG by fans was the dominating stroke-filled performance by Shahid Afridi. Afridi wasted no time by scoring a whirlwind 104 from 46 balls, 42 of which contributed to his century. The said century also included 11/4’s and 8/6’s. At the completion, Pakistan made 366 for seven. Other tangible contributors to the Pakistan batting innings were Yousuf Youhana 87, Kamran Akmal 56, Younis Khan 53 and Shoaib Malik 35. The all-rounding Afridi was also good with the ball, as he became the leading Pakistan bowler, ending with a magnificent 4 wickets for 6 runs from 6.4 overs, allowing Antigua to only make 118 in 32.4 overs. Although the Antiguans were careful in their approach, the only notable performances in their bowling department were Chad Hampson 2-47 and Carl Simon 2-69. Hampson is the 17 year-old all-rounder from New Winthorpes, who is a member of the combined schools side, while Simon of Ottos, one of the leading wicket takers in the regional domestic season, was flown in from England, to participate in the match. In the batting department, the Antigua pair opener started as a determined duo, only to be trapped by the Pakistani’s and with no solid back up. Top scorer for Antigua was Wilden Cornwall with 46, followed by the Anguillan guest cricketer Omari Banks. Pakistan will be moving on to their first encounter against the West Indies, in the team’s first of three One-day Internationals. Pakistan’s full itinerary goes in the following:

St. John's, Antigua - May 15, 2005: The Pakistan cricket team have arrived in the Caribbean and intentionally Antigua is their first stop. Pakistan is here on touring duty to play two tests and three One day International’s against the West Indies. But before they could begin their tour of duty, they would have to contend with the warmth and the hospitality of the people of Antigua & Barbuda. Their first encounter by way of schedule is a warm up match against the Antigua “President’s XI” today. The said encounter would also be taking place on a day where a number of young persons in the country would be ‘confirming’, that is, taking their first communion. On such a day also, Antiguans & Barbudans will be making up for the loss of interest, as well as absence, in the recently held fourth test match between the West Indies and South Africa at the ARG. On show in anticipation to their delight, will be a team that would represent not only the pride and joy of the country, but also some of the potential players, who have helped propelled the Leeward Islands Cricket team, to second place in the regional domestic competition. ><>
